Blizzard has announced it’s newest hero since Orisa, and whilst Orisa was a mech, she had a female voice and many feminine characteristics leading to many people treating her as another female addition to the Overwatch hero’s. Now, Blizzard have introduced their first new male hero (well, villain), and he’s probably the most macho of them all (move aside reaper) with bulging abs and a giant mechanical fist, Doomfist has entered the battle.

Doomfist, or Akande Ogundimu is a 45 year old Nigerian Mercenary. His harrowing story begins with how he lost his right arm in the aftermath of the Omnic Crisis we are all too familiar with, and had it replaced with a prosthetic from his inherited cybernetics company. This prevented him from practising martial arts, his passion, leading him to be enlisted in Talon as a mercenary, becoming the second Doomfist. Eventually he kills his teacher and takes on the mantle of Doomfist himself. After being imprisoned by an Overwatch strike team comprised of Winston, Tracer and Genji, he has broken out of his prison and returned to fight.

Primarily an offense hero, his “cybernetics make him a highly-mobile, powerful frontline fighter.” His abilities include the hand cannon, using his human arm to fire a short-range burst from the knuckles with ammunition that regenerates over time. The seismic slam allows Doomfist to leap forwards, smash the ground with his cybernetic fist and knocking nearby enemies towards him. Rising uppercut does exactly what it says on the tin, uppercutting enemies in front of him into the air with his cybernetic fist. Lastly, rocket punch charges up to deal a massive lunge forward knocking enemies back, and deals additional damage when enemies are knocked into walls.

Interestingly, Doomfist will generate temporary shields for himself when he deals ability damage. Lastly, Doofist’s ultimate is meteor strike, where he leaps into the sky and crashed into the ground dealing a lot of damage within the blast radius. Doomfist joins the largest group of heroes, the offense heroes, bringing the total number to 25 playable characters overall.
